Contemporary American artist, Kara Walker’s mural ‘Gone: An Historical Romance of a Civil War as it Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart’ is uncomfortably interesting, to say the least. The 1994 installation, which is now mounted in The MoMA in New York, confronts sexuality and violence while critiquing historical narratives of slavery. Walker, who cited her inspiration for the pieces from Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel ‘Gone with the Wind’ stated “The history of America is built on . . . inequality, this foundation of a racial inequality and a social inequality,”
Nestled in Harlem, New York, on the corner of 119th Street, is the ever chic Vinateria. The Italian and Spaniard influenced restaurant boasts a cultured setting and highlights it’s wine and cocktail program. The seasonal menu isn’t so shabby either – locally sourced ingredients enrich main course like their grilled whole Branzino sided with squash. For dinner, pair it with a selection of their white wines and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere.

Some may say “polka dot” is as American as American Pie, even though the recognizable print has British roots, dating as far back as the nineteenth century. Either way, whether you associate the print with British or American culture, the simple fact is, “polka dots” is iconic and spans through pop culture and fashion seamlessly.
Respecting that heritage brought #SHERMANPRESTON to revamp the print in its Fall 2015 ‘Dot On Black’ Cameron Shirt. Infusing contemporary elements with classic appeal embellish the aesthetic of the piece. The modish shirt, incorporating a hidden button down and semi spread collar on premium cotton, is versatile for any occasion. Take a look at ‘Dots On Black’ HERE.
